ORLANDO – The College of Chicago males’s tennis staff took down Emory College 5-0 within the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championship on Monday.
The No. 1-ranked Maroons (20-1 document) advance to Tuesday morning’s nationwide semifinals for the fifth time in program historical past. The No. 13-ranked Eagles completed their season with a 10-11 document.
UChicago defeated Emory for the third-straight assembly thanks largely to a 3-0 sweep of doubles. Junior Christian Alshon and sophomore Derek Hsieh prevailed 8-5 on the No. 1 place. Sophomore Arjun Asokumar and first-year Andrei Leonov triumphed 8-3 at No. 2, whereas junior Sachin Das and senior Alex Guzhva have been victorious 8-4 at No. 3.
With the Maroons needing simply two singles wins to finish the day early, Hsieh and Das obliged. Das rolled by his match at No. 4 by a 6-1, 6-2 ultimate. Hsieh claimed the win at No. 3 by scores of 6-2, 6-3.
