Sean O’Malley has doubled down on his accusation of UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili being afraid of Umar Nurmagomedov.
After Petr Yan (18-5 MMA, 10-4 UFC) defeated Deiveison Figueiredo in a Fight of the Night battle in Saturday’s UFC Battle Evening 248 headliner in Macau, his callout was accepted by Dvalishvili (18-4 MMA, 11-2 UFC), who lauded him for his efficiency. That set off Nurmagomedov, who, not like Yan, would current a recent problem to Dvalishvili. “The Machine” already defeated Yan by lopsided decision of their March 2023 primary occasion.
“Umar needs to combat Merab in January,” O’Malley stated on his “TimboSugaShow” podcast. “Petr needs to combat Merab in March. I need to combat Merab in April. Merab is completely sh*tting himself afraid of Umar. He doesn’t need to combat Umar. Now he’s saying he needs to combat Petr. He wished to combat me. Petr bought 50-45’d to Merab.”
O’Malley lost his bantamweight title to Dvalishvili this previous September at UFC 306. His head coach, Tim Welch, thinks Dvalishvili as champion just isn’t good for the bantamweight division.
“Consider how thrilling and lit the division can be if Merab wasn’t part of it,” Welch stated. “That’s no disrespect. The man is basically good at getting in these positions and getting by means of the combat. However, man, it could be lit. However the dude’s a significant issue.”
