One of many tastiest races in all of Eugene throughout the World Champs was the ladies’s 800 meters.
Why?
You had Athing Mu, Olympic champion, NCAA champion, USATF Champion, American report holder at 800 meters, versus Keely Hodgkinson, Staff GBR, European Indoor Champ, Olympic silver medalist, battling Athing over 800 meters.
On the U.S. Champs, Ajee’ Wilson had battled Athing down the ultimate straight, and Athing held her off.
Within the Girls’s 800m remaining, the tempo was quick, hitting 400 meters in 57.11, and Athing Mu started to make use of these lengthy strides about 500 meters and was in full flight at 600 meters. Keely Hodgkinson moved into third, then second across the flip, and moved on the within, trying to tug a “Peter Snell or Steve Ovett transfer”, the place one strikes on the within lane and will get by the opponent.
Athing Mu is one clean buyer. Her spidey senses come on when somebody strikes up and challenges her. I imagine, sorry, Athing, that she lives for the problem!
Keely Hodgkinson didn’t let up, she pushed Athing to the end, and Athing Mu took gold in 1:56.30. Keely Hodgkinson, realizing that she pushed Athing even nearer to the end, was timed in 1:56.38 for the silver.
In third, Kenya’s rising star, Mary Moraa, who needed to lead the race at 400 meters, took bronze in 1:56.71.
