Philadelphia sports activities have been blessed with some wonderful voices narrating their video games through the years. From in-stadium/enviornment legends like Dan Baker of the Phillies (and Drexel males’s basketball!), Lou Nolan of the Flyers, or Matt Twine of the Sixers to the voices we’ve heard on the radio or TV for years like Harry Kalas or Tom McGinnis or Jim Jackson or Marc Zumoff or … effectively, you get the purpose.
One title notably lacking from the earlier paragraph is Merrill Reese. The Professional Soccer Corridor of Fame introduced on Thursday that the “Voice of the Eagles” has been chosen because the 2024 Pete Rozelle Radio-Tv Award winner.

Per the Corridor of Fame’s press release:
“Every year, the Corridor of Fame acknowledges a person who has devoted their profession to bettering radio and tv in skilled soccer, and this 12 months’s recipient, Merrill Reese, represents precisely what we search for once we speak about who’s made a big effect in broadcasting,” mentioned Jim Porter, president of the Professional Soccer Corridor of Fame. “For almost a half century, followers tuning into Eagles video games, together with opposing followers, have had the privilege of listening to Merrill’s legendary voice.”
When the Eagles and Green Bay Packers kickoff their 2024-25 season in September, Reese will start his forty eighth straight season behind the mic for Philadelphia. After the Eagles received the Super Bowl in 2018, Reese was the voice that hundreds of Birds followers heard as Tom Brady’s ultimate cross hit the turf.
A local of Philadelphia, Reese has acquired quite a few awards and recognition all through his prolonged profession, together with Pennsylvania Sportscaster of the 12 months, Lindsey Nelson Award for Excellence in Sportscasting, Philadelphia’s Greatest Sportscaster by Philadelphia Journal and induction into the Pennsylvania Sports activities Corridor of Fame, Temple College Communications Corridor of Fame and Overbrook Excessive Faculty Corridor of Fame.
Previous winners of this award are a “who’s who” of soccer voices: John Facenda, Joe Buck, Al Michaels, Jim Nantz, Chris Berman, John Madden, Pat Summerall, and lots of others.
Reese will probably be honored throughout the 2024 Professional Soccer Corridor of Fame Enshrinement Week that features the Enshrinees’ Gold Jacket Dinner in downtown Canton on Friday, Aug. 2, and the Class of 2024 Enshrinement on Saturday, Aug. 3, in Tom Benson Corridor of Fame Stadium.
