Former UFC champion T.J. Dillashaw tried his hand at flyweight in 2019 when he challenged then-champion Henry Cejudo. As all of us noticed, it was a failed experiment that took away two years from his preventing profession.
The 36-year-old Dillashaw had usually been candid about what he described as a “giant mistake,” and a few credit score does go to him for that. And should you ask him if he’ll ever make one other run at 125 kilos, this was his response.
“That’s why I f—ked up. My physique was dying. (They had been) telling me I couldn’t do it. I acquired under 4% physique fats,” Dillashaw instructed the media through the UFC 273 scrum on Saturday.
“I see footage of myself. I believed I regarded good on the time, proper? However I see footage of myself now, I regarded like a crackhead. It was disgusting.”
When requested if he felt any remorse for making the drop, Dillashaw had this to say.
“I do and I don’t. I knew it was lots of work, however yeah, I undoubtedly remorse it as a result of I wouldn’t have been sitting out for 2 years.”
Dillashaw has since bounced again with a win over fellow top-five contender Cory Sandhagen in his return struggle final July. He’s now the frontrunner to face reigning champion Aljamain Sterling, who defended the undisputed title towards Petr Yan at UFC 273.
