How Indy 500 qualifying works: The two-day system in full

Qualifying commenced at 11am native time on Saturday. Every automobile was given a single, four-lap run to set a median pace – and went in an order chosen by random draw on Friday night time (see under).
When each automobile within the qualifying order for Saturday has had no less than one probability to qualify, groups might select from two lanes on the finish of the pits for subsequent makes an attempt.
