CHICAGO – In a match-up that went right down to the wire, the College of Chicago girls’s tennis crew was edged out by Japanese Michigan College 4-3 on Friday night time.
The Maroons (0-1 file) have been making their 2022 twin match debut following a profitable match season within the fall. The Eagles improved to 2-4.
Friday’s competitors at XS Tennis pitted a younger UChicago squad that featured 5 first-years in its beginning lineup in opposition to NCAA Division I opponent Japanese Michigan.
The Maroons secured the doubles level after successful two of the three doubles matches. First-years Shianna Gou and Sylwia Mikos defeated their opponents 6-3 at No. 1. Junior Claudia Ng and senior Eugenia Lee gained by an an identical 6-3 margin at No. 2.
“The crew competed so onerous right now and performed so properly that we put ourselves able to tug off a serious upset in opposition to a legit EMU crew,” Head Coach Jay Tee stated. “EMU had taken the doubles level in opposition to each Illinois-Chicago and Cleveland State the previous two days, so for us to come back out in our first match of the 12 months and take two of three was spectacular.”
In singles, Mikos prevailed in three units on the No. 1 spot (6-2, 1-6, 6-0). Ng gained on the No. 3 place by scores of 6-3, 6-3. However the Eagles held sway within the remaining 4 singles matches to come back away with the crew victory.
“Sylwia and Claudia collected two large wins and Nicole Geller battled onerous to provide the crew an opportunity on the finish in a 3rd set,” Tee stated. “We are going to study from this and solely get higher because the 12 months goes on and we get a number of extra matches underneath our belts.”
